ArcelorMittal Warszawa is re-commissioning its rolling mill after adding four new rolling stands.
This step allows the mill to use 220 mm square billets.
Hot tests were carried out in November 2024, ahead of the original schedule of January 2025. The project was originally scheduled for 2020/2021. At the time, the company claimed that as a result of these changes, it would be able to produce SBQ bars with a diameter of up to 100 mm, compared to the current 20-80 mm.
The SBQ market, which finds its application mainly in the automotive sector, remains relatively stable, said Artur Gierwatowski, CEO of ArcelorMittal Warsawa.
As a reminder, ArcelorMittal Poland is launching a large-scale modernization of the argon cleaning system at its Dombrowa Górnicza plant. This project worth over PLN 30 million is aimed at reducing the company’s environmental impact and improving working conditions. It will be completed by the end of the year,
As GMK Center reported earlier, in January this year, ArcelorMittal Poland started commissioning new hydrogen furnaces in the annealing shop at its Krakow facility. Investments in the project amounted to PLN 52 million ($12.5 million). As a result, the company eliminated ammonia from the annealing process and reduced its duration, which reduced natural gas and electricity consumption and cut carbon emissions by 50%.
