United States June 2024 Steel Shipments Down 3.8 Percent From Prior Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of June 2024, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,152,135 net tons, a 6.6 percent decrease from the 7,655,692 net tons shipped in June 2023. Shipments were down 3.8 percent from the 7,431,201 net tons shipped in the previous month, May 2024. Shipments year-to-date in 2024 are 43,759,681 net tons, down 3.9% vs. 2023 shipments of 45,515,846 net tons for six months.
A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2024 to the first six months of 2023 shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up 4 percent, corrosion resistant steel, down 2 percent and hot rolled steel, down 4 percent.
